In a recent enforcement operation, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and police targeted spice traders in Lalbaug's Mirchi Galli, a bustling market in Mumbai. This action was taken in response to numerous complaints regarding road congestion and public inconvenience caused by encroachments. Officials seized various spices displayed on the streets and instructed shopkeepers to relocate their stock indoors to improve accessibility. Residents have expressed frustration, particularly during the summer months when spices are processed on the streets, leading to blocked roads and smoke from frying activities. Local corporator Kiran Tawde called for a balanced approach, noting that summer is the peak season for grinding spices, which attracts buyers from afar. He urged both residents and the BMC to accommodate the seasonal trade, which lasts only about two months each year. The BMC has indicated that it will continue its enforcement efforts in the coming days to address these ongoing issues.
