This year's decor will feature 80 pots of PBW 826 wheat, emphasizing its role in national food security. PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal noted the university's historical contributions since its establishment in 1962, which aimed to make India self-reliant in food production. Currently, about 95% of Punjab's wheat area and 60% of its rice area are planted with PAU-recommended varieties. Dr. Virinder Singh Sohu, principal wheat breeder at PAU, stated that PBW 826 accounts for 40-45% of the total wheat cultivated in Punjab, primarily due to its heat tolerance.
