The White House is reportedly favoring Erica Schwartz, a former deputy U.S. surgeon general, to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), according to a report from the Washington Post. Schwartz, who served during President Donald Trump's first term, is expected to bring a unique perspective to the role amid ongoing leadership changes at the CDC. Alongside Schwartz, Sean Slovenski, a former executive at Walmart, is being considered for the position of deputy director, pending Trump's approval. This potential appointment comes after a series of shakeups at the CDC, which included the firing of former Director Susan Monarez last August due to disagreements over vaccine policy changes. Monarez was succeeded by Jim O'Neill, who later left the role in February and was followed by Jay Bhattacharya from the National Institutes of Health. Other candidates for senior positions at the CDC include Jen Shuford, Texas health commissioner, and Sara Brenner, a top official at the FDA.
