In a significant development amidst the ongoing crisis in West Asia, two Indian LPG vessels, Green Sanvi and Green Asha, have successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz. The Green Sanvi carries 46,500 metric tons of LPG with a crew of 25 seafarers, while the Green Asha is transporting 15,500 metric tons with 26 seafarers onboard. This successful transit is crucial for maintaining the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to India, where consumer demand remains high. Over the past 14 days, more than 675,000 LPG cylinders have been sold, with daily sales reaching a peak of 90,000 cylinders on April 4. The Indian government has also made it easier for consumers to collect 5 kg LPG cylinders from distributors by eliminating the need for address proof, requiring only a valid ID. Currently, 16 Indian-flagged vessels are in transit, alongside various foreign-flagged vessels, ensuring the stability of LPG supply in the region.
