The sixth edition of the Apollo Hospitals’ Health of the Nation 2026 report, released on World Health Day, reveals alarming health trends among working Indians. The report, based on over three million health assessments, shows that 80% of working individuals are overweight, and nearly half have prediabetes or diabetes. Among young adults, two in three are at risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), with many unaware of their health conditions. Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies are widespread, affecting nearly 70% and 50% of the population, respectively. Notably, the mean age for breast cancer detection in women has dropped to 51, indicating a need for earlier screening. The report emphasizes that traditional symptom-driven healthcare is insufficient, as many conditions remain clinically silent. Dr. Saptarshi Bhattacharya from Indraprastha Apollo Hospital stresses the importance of integrated care and early intervention, particularly through workplace and college-based programs. The findings point to a critical need for lifestyle changes and structured follow-ups to combat these emerging health risks.
