The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated a new phase for the Metro Line 14 project by inviting bids for consultants to finalize the detailed project report. This proposed corridor, stretching 43.69 km from Kanjurmarg to Badlapur, is set to be one of the longest in Mumbai's metro network. The previous contract with Italian firm M s Metro Milano was terminated in December 2025 due to concerns raised by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay regarding the feasibility report. The new consultant will be responsible for revising key project parameters, conducting a techno-economic feasibility study, and updating ridership projections and cost estimates. Metro Line 14 will feature 24 stations, with most being elevated and only the Kanjurmarg section underground. It aims to connect rapidly growing residential areas in the eastern periphery of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Bhandup, Mulund, Thane outskirts, Ambernath, and Badlapur. This corridor is expected to significantly ease congestion on the Central Railway suburban network, particularly benefiting long-distance commuters traveling from Badlapur and Ambernath to Mumbai.
