The house collapsed around 8 PM due to land subsidence while the victims were inside. Locals reported that Sarita was visiting when the ground suddenly gave way, trapping them under debris. Rescue efforts began late that night and concluded around 2:30 AM with the recovery of all three bodies. Family members criticized the delay in rescue operations, claiming it reduced their chances of survival. The incident sparked protests among residents, who blamed illegal coal mining and underground fires for destabilizing the land. Villagers blocked the Rajganj–Katras road, causing significant traffic disruptions. Tensions escalated when officials from Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) visited the site, leading to confrontations with residents demanding compensation and rehabilitation.
