In Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu, 450 nominations have been submitted for the upcoming Assembly elections on April 23. Among the candidates, former AIADMK Minister S.P. Velumani filed his nomination from the Thondamuthur constituency, declaring movable assets worth ₹1.36 crore and immovable assets worth ₹5.59 crore. He expressed confidence in winning by a margin of one lakh votes, citing infrastructure development and educational initiatives. On the other hand, V. Senthilbalaji, representing the DMK from Coimbatore South, highlighted the party's accomplishments over the past five years and its vision for the future, declaring movable assets of ₹1.12 crore and immovable assets of ₹1.35 crore. The presence of independent candidates is notable, with 37 in Coimbatore South and 49 in Thondamuthur, indicating potential shifts in voter sentiment. The elections will see candidates from various parties, including the BJP, which is also contesting vigorously in the region.
