On April 6, 2026, the final day for filing nominations for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, prominent candidates from major parties submitted their papers. Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister, filed his nomination from the Edappadi constituency. Duraimurugan, the DMK general secretary and senior Minister, filed from Katpadi. Additionally, Union Minister L. Murugan filed from Avanashi (Reserved) constituency, and former AIADMK coordinator O. Panneerselvam is contesting as the DMK candidate in Bodinayakanur. BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran filed from Sattur, while former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan filed from Mylapore in Chennai. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai and DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant also filed their nominations in Sriperumbudur and Vriddhachalam, respectively. As of 7:30 p.m., the Election Commission of India reported that over 5,500 candidates had filed nominations across 234 constituencies, including over 1,000 women candidates and one from the third gender. The Karur constituency received the highest number of nominations at 108, while Salem (West) and Paramathi-Velur received 51 and 50 nominations, respectively. Scrutiny of the nominations will take place on April 7, with the last day for withdrawal set for April 9.
