In the fiscal year 2025-26, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) achieved remarkable production milestones, marking its best performance to date. The plant's blast furnace-5 produced 32.46 lakh tonnes of hot metal, surpassing its previous output of 31.32 lakh tonnes. Additionally, blast furnace-1 recorded 10.7 lakh tonnes of production. The overall saleable steel production reached 41.65 lakh tonnes, reflecting a 2.1% increase from 40.80 lakh tonnes in FY25. Significant achievements were also noted in downstream units, with the new plate mill producing 9.93 lakh tonnes, a 6.6% increase, and the hot strip mill-2 reaching 26.7 lakh tonnes, up 4.3%. The special plate plant, catering to the defence sector, achieved its highest output of 3,905 tonnes, surpassing the previous record of 3,366 tonnes set in 2017-18. RSP's success is attributed to strict operational discipline and efficient resource utilization, with officials optimistic about further enhancing production and efficiency in the coming year.
