The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) against Manoj Kumar Agarwal, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, alleging that he exhibited biased conduct and violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). This complaint follows Agarwal's visit to Nandigram in East Midnapore, where he reportedly interacted with voters while accompanied by a local leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). TMC's letter to CEC Gyanesh Kumar claims that Agarwal's actions amount to undue influence and partiality, violating provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. TMC has called for Agarwal's removal and appropriate actions against him under the MCC and the Act. In response, Agarwal refuted the allegations, stating he was accompanied by various officials and that his visit was intended to ensure free and fair elections, particularly in areas previously affected by election-related violence. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari criticized TMC for the allegations, questioning their validity and intentions.
