Scientists at the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad, India, have developed Jonaki, a compact device designed to facilitate secure quantum communication. About the size of a tablet and weighing 1.5 kg, Jonaki utilizes entangled photons to create unbreakable links for transmitting messages. This innovative device aims to make advanced quantum technology accessible to undergraduate institutions, empowering the next generation of scientists. Jonaki generates at least 10 lakh (1 million) linked photon pairs every second per milliwatt of power, placing it among the world's best devices in this field. It operates at room temperature, is stable, and connects directly to optical fibers, making it user-friendly. The device's capabilities extend beyond communication, as it can also be used for precision measurements, responding to minute changes in optical properties with unparalleled sensitivity.
