The Assam assembly election is shaping up as a significant contest between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the Congress party, which is aiming for a comeback after a decade. The BJP is leveraging the leadership of Sarma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while Congress has nominated Gaurav Gogoi, the son of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. Both parties have formed alliances with smaller regional parties to consolidate their voter bases and mitigate the risk of vote division.
