A tragic accident on Wednesday morning claimed the lives of three people and left ten others critically injured in Basirhat, a subdivision in North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. The collision occurred around 7 am on the Basanti Highway, near the Minakhan gram panchayat office, when a speeding car lost control and crashed head-on into an autorickshaw carrying several passengers traveling from Malancha towards Kolkata. Witnesses described the impact as devastating, with the autorickshaw being crushed and thrown aside. Two victims died immediately, while a third succumbed to injuries en route to the hospital. The injured were initially taken to Minakhan Rural Hospital before being transferred to a Kolkata facility for advanced care. Local police have seized the vehicles involved and are investigating the incident. Pratik Mondal, the Indian Secular Front (ISF) candidate for the Minakhan Assembly constituency, visited the hospital to offer support to the victims' families, highlighting the ongoing issue of reckless driving on the Basanti Highway.
