As of April 4, 2023, domestic LPG cylinder prices in India remain stable, offering some relief to households amid ongoing volatility in global energy markets due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. In contrast, commercial LPG prices have surged, with a ₹194 increase in Delhi and a ₹195 rise in Mumbai, marking the second price hike since the onset of the Iran war with the US and Israel in late February. The first hike occurred in March, raising the cost of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹144. The rising costs are largely attributed to supply shortages stemming from disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial energy route, which has tightened global supply and increased prices. India relies heavily on imports for its LPG and natural gas needs, with nearly 60% of its LPG sourced from the Middle East. The Indian Oil Corporation has urged consumers to avoid panic buying, assuring that the supply of LPG remains stable, with around 28 lakh cylinders delivered daily. Additionally, Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices have also increased, reflecting the global surge in jet fuel prices.

The increase in commercial LPG prices will likely lead to higher costs for restaurants and hotels, which may pass these costs onto consumers through increased menu prices.
