In a strategic move to strengthen its appeal among Dalit voters ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Congress party is shifting its focus to former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram. The party is organizing a seminar and felicitation program at its headquarters in Lucknow on the eve of Ram's 118th birth anniversary. The event will celebrate his legacy of social justice and inclusive development, with Meira Kumar, his daughter and former Lok Sabha Speaker, attending as the chief guest. Congress leaders emphasize Ram's contributions to the nation, highlighting his roles as Agriculture Minister during the Green Revolution and as Defence Minister. This initiative follows the party's earlier focus on Kanshi Ram, the founder of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), as part of its broader strategy to engage Dalit communities. The Congress has been conducting 'Samvidhan Sammelans' across Uttar Pradesh, focusing on constitutional values and social justice, as it seeks to consolidate Dalit votes in light of the upcoming elections.
