In a remarkable demonstration of medical ingenuity, Dr. Anup Mahajani from Navi Mumbai successfully treated 35-year-old Manohar Pawar, a tuberculosis patient suffering from cardiac tamponade, using a kidney dialysis catheter. The procedure took place in Roha, Maharashtra, where specialized cardiac facilities were unavailable within a 70-km radius. Upon arrival at Jadhav Nursing Home, the patient was critically ill, and his family opted for immediate treatment despite financial constraints. The doctor, unable to access standard pericardiocentesis equipment, decided to improvise with a dialysis catheter, which was procured from a nearby pharmacy. The procedure was high-risk due to the catheter's thicker design and the absence of real-time imaging support. However, it successfully relieved pressure on the heart, stabilizing the patient's condition. Following the procedure, Manohar was referred to JJ Hospital for further care, where his condition has since improved.
