On April 3, 2026, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress announced their candidates for the assembly elections in Kanniyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, India. The BJP is contesting in four constituencies: Nagercoil, Colachel, Padmanabhapuram, and Vilavancode. M.R. Gandhi, the incumbent MLA from Nagercoil, is seeking re-election at the age of 76, having previously won his seat in the 2021 elections. The party has also fielded S. Vijayadharani in Vilavancode, who has previously won the constituency three times before joining BJP in February 2024. T. Shivakumar and P. Ramesh will represent BJP in Colachel and Padmanabhapuram, respectively. On the other hand, Congress, part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, is contesting in Colachel, Killiyoor, and Vilavancode. Incumbent MLAs S. Rajesh Kumar and Tharahai Cuthbert have been renominated for Killiyoor and Colachel, respectively. Cuthbert, who currently serves as the Vilavancode MLA, is contesting from Colachel this time. T.T. Praveen, a new candidate for Congress, will compete against Vijayadharani in Vilavancode.
