The Pune district election office has formally requested the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to avoid assigning census duties to Block Level Officers (BLOs), as this is hindering the ongoing pre-SIR (Systematic Voter's List Revision) mapping process. Minal Kalaskar, the Deputy District Election Officer, stated that the letter was sent to both the PMC and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) commissioners. Kalaskar assured that there is no shortage of BLOs, but their involvement in census work is causing delays. In contrast, PMC commissioner Naval Kishore Ram highlighted the urgency of the census, which is a time-sensitive initiative requiring a large workforce. He noted that the census self-enumeration phase is set to begin on May 1 and will continue until May 15, followed by field operations until June 14. Kalaskar also mentioned that 36% of the SIR mapping has already been completed, and reassured the public that there is no immediate deadline for the SIR process. Residents are encouraged to verify their names on the 2002 voter roll and reach out to their respective BLOs for assistance.
