The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi is currently hosting 'Celebrating The Art of Saree-Weaving From Bangladesh', an exhibition that runs until April 21. This event focuses on the refined craftsmanship of Tangail and Pabna sarees, following Tangail's recognition as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in November 2025. The exhibition features over 300 curated sarees, showcasing the artistry and stories behind each piece. Bangladesh High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah emphasized the event as a celebration of craftsmanship rather than diplomacy, highlighting the emotional narratives woven into every saree. Notable figures like architect Sunita Kohli and craftswoman Laila Tyabji praised the saree's enduring legacy, which dates back over 4,000 years to the Indus Valley Civilization. The presence of master weavers at the event allowed attendees to connect with the rich history of the craft, as artisan Khokan Basak shared his family's nine-generation legacy in Tangail weaving. This exhibition not only celebrates the saree as a garment but also as a symbol of cultural heritage and emotional expression.
