The Ghaziabad police's crime branch arrested three individuals, including a 44-year-old woman and two men aged 39 and 25, for allegedly attempting to extort ₹10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD) from Arpit Gupta, a developer based in Indirapuram. Gupta reported receiving threatening calls demanding the ransom, with threats to harm his family. The suspects, who reside in Wave City, devised their plan after the woman was dismissed from her job at Gupta's office in Noida. They used a used mobile phone to make calls over several days in April, falsely claiming to be members of a criminal gang from Gautam Budh Nagar. The police formed multiple teams to investigate and successfully apprehended the suspects, recovering the mobile phone and SIM card used in the extortion attempts. During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspects were not actually affiliated with any gang, but had used the name to instill fear in Gupta.
