MK Stalin (President of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu) has strongly criticized the central government's delimitation draft bill, describing it as a 'calculated deception.' He urged the government to refrain from hastily passing the bill, asserting that it poses a threat to Tamil Nadu's political representation. Stalin emphasized that the assurances given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah about maintaining Tamil Nadu's representation are contradicted by the bill's content. He expressed concerns that the bill could be manipulated to serve political interests, calling it a 'carefully crafted trap.' Stalin demanded the restoration of constitutional safeguards that were previously provided by former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which involved freezing delimitation through constitutional amendment. He warned that if the government attempts to push the bill through Parliament despite opposition, there will be repercussions in Tamil Nadu.
