A devastating explosion at the Vanaja fireworks factory in Kattanarpatti, Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, on Sunday led to the tragic deaths of 23 workers and injuries to several others. The blast occurred around 3:30 PM while about 30 employees were working, reportedly in the front area where raw materials were handled. The explosion was so powerful that it destroyed at least three rooms and leveled adjacent structures. Rescue operations are ongoing, and six injured individuals are currently being treated at the District Government Hospital. National leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have expressed their condolences, calling the incident deeply distressing. An investigation is being conducted to ascertain the cause of the explosion and to check for any violations of safety regulations. If any violations are found, authorities plan to take legal action against the factory owner, who is currently absconding. The factory reportedly holds a license from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) in Nagpur.
