The Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Pathugappu Sangam (Tamil Nadu Farmers Protection Association) has publicly criticized the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government for failing to deliver on its electoral promises to farmers. At a press conference held on Saturday, founder Esan Murugasamy stated that of the 83 promises made, only 10 have been fulfilled. The association expressed particular concern over the establishment of five SIPCOT (State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu) industrial estates in the Cauvery delta region, which is designated as a Protected Special Agriculture Zone. Furthermore, the government had announced a minimum support price of ₹4,000 (approximately $48 USD) per tonne for sugarcane, yet farmers have not received this support as promised. The association's statements highlight ongoing frustrations among farmers regarding the government's agricultural policies and commitments.
