Dr. Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader in India, responded to the recent attack on two Indian-flagged tankers, Jag Arnav and Sanmar Herald, near the Strait of Hormuz. He stated he was unaware of the incident but emphasized the longstanding and strong relationship between India and Iran, which he described as rooted in 5,000 years of history. The tankers were reportedly fired upon by the Iranian Navy while carrying Iraqi oil, prompting India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to summon the Iranian ambassador for a formal protest. The MEA expressed serious concern over the safety of merchant shipping, recalling Iran's previous facilitation of safe passage for ships bound for India. Amid escalating tensions, the Iranian Navy issued warnings to vessels against approaching the Strait, labeling such actions as cooperation with enemies. Ilahi reiterated Iran's preference for peace and cooperation over conflict.
