The Delhi government has intensified its efforts to prevent child marriages in anticipation of Akshaya Tritiya, an auspicious festival celebrated in many parts of India. Following an advisory from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), officials have alerted districts about the likelihood of child marriages occurring during this period. To address this, inspection teams consisting of tehsildars and patwaris have been deployed across the 13 revenue districts to monitor vulnerable areas. These teams will conduct physical inspections on April 19 and report any suspected child marriages, enabling action under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. The government has also urged local police to disseminate the advisory to various community organizations, including resident welfare associations, religious institutions, and NGOs, to ensure vigilance and prevent such violations during the festival.
