Umer Harris, alias 'Khargosh', a terrorist linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), is believed to be in Saudi Arabia after fleeing India with a forged passport under the name Sajjad. Initially from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, he joined the LeT to avoid prosecution for arson and infiltrated Jammu and Kashmir in 2012. His escape route involved traveling to Indonesia before reaching Saudi Arabia. The Srinagar Police, leading the investigation, identified systemic loopholes in identity verification processes that allowed Harris to obtain travel documents. His marriage to an LeT operative's daughter in Jaipur under his assumed identity further complicated the case. The investigation has led to the arrest of five individuals, including key operatives, and revealed a network operating across Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is expected to take over the case, with ongoing efforts to secure Harris's deportation through diplomatic channels.
