In Medellín, Colombia, the Golondrinas neighborhood has taken significant steps towards climate resilience through a community-driven adaptation plan for Comuna 8, which houses approximately 150,000 residents. Spearheaded by community leader Robinson Velásquez Cartagena, the initiative includes a rainwater harvesting system designed to mitigate flooding and landslides, particularly crucial after a devastating landslide in 1987 that claimed 500 lives. Launched in August 2023, the plan aligns with Medellín's broader Climate Action Plan and comprises eight measures such as reforestation, eco-gardens, and agroforestry systems.
