Anthropic, an AI startup, has launched Project Glasswing, a cybersecurity initiative designed to test its advanced AI model, Claude Mythos Preview, which focuses on identifying software vulnerabilities. This project unites key technology firms and critical infrastructure organizations, including Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, to enhance cybersecurity defenses against increasingly sophisticated AI-driven threats. Microsoft’s Global Chief Information Security Officer, Igor Tsyganskiy, noted that this initiative represents a significant shift in cybersecurity, allowing for proactive risk identification and mitigation. Amazon Web Services is already applying the model internally to strengthen its security operations. Anthropic has committed up to $100 million in usage credits and $4 million for open-source security efforts, aiming to expand participation to more organizations responsible for critical systems. The initiative addresses the growing concern over AI-powered cyberattacks, with Anthropic emphasizing the need for responsible deployment of such capabilities primarily for defensive purposes.
