The Kerala government has officially banned unauthorized summer classes in schools, asserting the importance of preserving vacation time for students. General Education Minister V Sivankutty stated, "Vacation must remain a vacation," and clarified that no fees or funds should be collected for these classes unless directed by the government. This directive particularly targets un-aided schools, although CBSE schools, which operate under a different board, are also required to comply due to their No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state government. In lieu of standard summer classes, a 'learning support program' is being conducted for students from Class 5 to Class 9 who scored below 30% in their exams. This program runs until April 27 and aims to enhance academic performance, culminating in a special school-level exam to determine promotion eligibility. The Minister emphasized that this initiative is distinct from regular summer classes, focusing solely on academic improvement.
