The Indian equity markets opened with moderate losses, as the Nifty index fell to 23,984.40, trading below the 24,000 mark. The S&P BSE Sensex declined by 164.91 points or 0.21% to 77,397.99. Private banking, realty, and financial stocks saw declines, while sectors like metals, media, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) showed gains. Notably, the broader market outperformed the frontline indices, with the BSE 150 MidCap Index rising 0.40% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index jumping 0.88%. The market breadth was strong, with 2,408 shares advancing against 773 shares that fell. Foreign portfolio investors sold shares worth ₹2,811.97 crore, while domestic institutional investors were net buyers, acquiring shares worth ₹4,168.17 crore. Among individual stocks, Lupin gained 0.45% following approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for its Dapagliflozin and Metformin tablets. KEC International surged 7% after securing new orders worth ₹2,518 crore. The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper rose to 6.934%, and the rupee weakened slightly against the dollar, trading at 92.6350.
