The Delhi government announced plans to set up 26 Karmika Sewa Kendras (KSKs) to facilitate the registration of nearly 3 million construction workers, particularly those in the unorganised sector. This initiative, with a budget of over ₹25.41 crore (around $3 million USD), is modeled on the Passport Sewa Kendra framework and aims to improve the delivery of welfare schemes. The Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (DBOCWWB) is overseeing the project, which will include 13 static and 13 mobile KSKs deployed in phases, prioritizing areas with the greatest need. Additionally, 39 labour chowks will be established across Delhi’s 13 revenue districts to provide workers with access to employment opportunities and basic amenities such as sanitation and first aid. The KSKs will utilize AI technology for automated services, including worker registration and benefit tracking, ensuring efficient service delivery. This development comes in response to recent protests by workers in Noida and Gurugram demanding wage revisions.
