On Wednesday, a Special Court for Members of Parliament and Legislative Assemblies in Karnataka convicted Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni in the murder case of BJP leader Yogesh Gowda. The court found Kulkarni guilty along with 18 others for the murder that took place on June 15, 2016, at a gym in Dharwad, Karnataka, India. Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat acquitted two other accused individuals. The case was initially handled by local police but was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2019 after the BJP party came to power. The CBI conducted extensive investigations, recording statements from 113 witnesses and ultimately arresting Kulkarni in 2020. He spent over nine months in jail before being granted bail by the Supreme Court. The court is expected to announce the quantum of punishment for Kulkarni on Thursday.
