Air India plans to complete the retrofitting of seven additional Boeing 787-8 aircraft in 2023 as part of its fleet modernization strategy. Air India, the Tata Group-owned airline, is set to complete the retrofitting of seven more Boeing 787-8 aircraft this year, enhancing its long-haul operations. The first retrofitted aircraft, featuring a 250-seat configuration across business, premium economy, and economy classes, landed in New Delhi on April 13. Chief Customer Experience Officer Rajesh Dogra stated that a total of eight retrofitted planes will be completed by the end of 2023. The airline aims to retrofit 85% of its legacy Boeing 787-8 fleet by the end of 2027, with full completion expected by the first quarter of 2028. Air India currently operates 33 Boeing 787s, including 26 legacy 787-8s and 7 Boeing 787-9s. The retrofit of Boeing 777 planes is anticipated to start in the second half of 2027. CEO Campbell Wilson emphasized that the retrofitting signifies the airline's commitment to modernization and improving customer experience on long-haul flights.
