Tamil Nadu has topped the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class X results for 2023 with a remarkable pass percentage of 99.92%, surpassing last year's 99.86%. The Chennai region also performed well, with girls achieving a higher pass rate than boys. This year, CBSE introduced two board exams, allowing students to improve scores in up to three subjects.

In the CBSE Class X results for 2023, Tamil Nadu achieved the highest pass percentage in India at 99.92%, an improvement from last year's 99.86%. A total of 1,11,603 students took the exams across 1,904 centres in the state, with 1,11,509 passing. The Chennai region, which includes parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Puducherry, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, recorded a pass percentage of 99.58%, ranking just below Trivandrum and Vijayawada. Notably, girls outperformed boys, with 99.96% of girls passing compared to 99.92% of boys in Tamil Nadu. Kendriya Vidyalayas had an impressive pass rate of 99.98%, while government-aided schools achieved a perfect 100%. This year, CBSE introduced a second board exam aimed at allowing students to improve their scores in up to three subjects, with the registration for this exam taking place from April 16 to 22. School officials expect many students to register for improvement, particularly in mathematics, due to a noticeable decline in average scores.
