The Khadak police in Pune, Maharashtra, India, have filed a case against Anil Kataria (60) and his son Rahul Anil Kataria (35) for allegedly defrauding a 54-year-old woman, Ratandevi Kantilaal Oswal, of ₹40 lakh (approximately $48,000 USD). The fraud reportedly occurred between November 2022 and April 2026, when the accused promised her a 40% return on a real estate investment. They assured her of a monthly payout of ₹1.6 lakh and the return of her principal whenever needed. Initially, Oswal received the promised payments from August to October 2023, but these payments abruptly stopped. The situation escalated when cheques issued by the accused bounced due to signature mismatches. Subsequently, the father-son duo became unreachable, prompting Oswal to approach the police. The case was officially registered on April 14, 2026, by inspector Shashikant Chavan.
