During a press conference in Bengaluru on April 19, 2026, Anurag Thakur (BJP leader and former Minister) addressed concerns regarding the delimitation process in India. He dismissed claims from the opposition, particularly the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Congress, that the process would disadvantage southern states as a 'false narrative.' Thakur stated that each southern state would gain more Lok Sabha seats than what was projected based on the 2011 Census. Specifically, Tamil Nadu's representation is set to increase from 39 to 59 seats, surpassing the earlier projection by ten seats. Similarly, Kerala's seats will rise from 20 to 30, Karnataka's from 28 to 42, Andhra Pradesh's from 25 to 37, and Telangana's from 17 to 25. This adjustment will elevate the southern states' combined representation from 23.76% to 23.90% in the Lok Sabha.
