In a daring robbery on Friday, five masked gunmen stormed a Bank of Maharashtra branch in Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh, stealing gold and cash valued at ₹5.7 crore. Initially, police estimated the theft at only ₹14 lakh. The robbers, armed and aggressive, threatened employees and customers at gunpoint, demanding keys to the gold locker. They assaulted a bank manager and forced people to the floor before fleeing with ₹5.5 crore in gold and ₹20 lakh in cash. Police reported that the robbers escaped on motorcycles towards Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh and later entered Chhattisgarh. Authorities have arrested one suspect in Dehri, Rohtas district, Bihar, and are actively searching for the others. The Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police, Kailash Makwana, has sought assistance from law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Bihar, offering a reward of ₹50,000 for information leading to further arrests. The bank remained closed on Saturday as investigations continued.
