Chandigarh, India, experienced a significant temperature rise, reaching a maximum of 36.8°C on Wednesday, which is 2.7 degrees above normal and the highest recorded this season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that temperatures may climb further, potentially hitting 39°C by Friday. This increase follows a brief period of cooler weather due to Western Disturbances that brought rainfall, which is now diminishing. IMD Chandigarh director Surender Paul noted that while a moderate Western Disturbance is expected to affect the region, its impact will be limited due to prevailing anticyclonic conditions. The unusual rainfall earlier this month has led to 73.4 mm of rain since March 1, which is 177% above normal, damaging crops. However, the formation of the El Niño system suggests below-average rainfall for the early monsoon months starting in June. Minimum temperatures in Chandigarh have also risen to 16.4°C, but remain below normal levels. Over the next three days, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 37°C and 39°C, while minimum temperatures will hover between 17°C and 19°C.
