The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted bail to Rampal, the leader of Satlok Ashram in Hisar, after he spent nearly 11 years in prison. The court's decision, issued on April 8, 2023, comes with strict conditions, including a prohibition against participating in congregations that could lead to a breach of peace and law and order. Rampal was convicted in October 2018 for the murder of five women and an infant during a violent standoff with police in November 2014, which resulted in injuries to over 180 individuals. The court noted that Rampal's age of 75 years and the lengthy trial process, with only 58 out of 425 prosecution witnesses examined so far, contributed to the bail decision. The court also highlighted that around 900 co-accused have been granted bail in the same case, with 140 facing similar charges as Rampal. The court warned that any violation of bail conditions could lead to cancellation of bail.
