The government of Uttar Pradesh has implemented new minimum wage rates following approval from Governor Anandiben Patel. This decision comes after protests by workers in Noida and Greater Noida, leading to the formation of a high-level committee chaired by Deepak Kumar, the Commissioner for Infrastructure and Industrial Development. The committee proposed a wage structure divided into three categories based on the cost of living. For Category 1, which includes Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad, the monthly minimum wage is set at ₹13,690 for unskilled workers, ₹15,059 for semi-skilled workers, and ₹16,868 for skilled workers. Category 2 includes other districts with municipal corporations, where wages are ₹13,006, ₹14,306, and ₹16,025 respectively. The remaining districts fall under Category 3, with wages set at ₹12,356, ₹13,590, and ₹15,224. These rates incorporate the basic wage and variable dearness allowance (VDA). The government aims to address pending wage revisions and maintain industrial harmony, emphasizing the importance of this decision for worker welfare. Following implementation, any wage reduction or irregularity will face strict penalties.
