Between April 1 and April 15, 2023, the Gurugram traffic police issued fines to 312 vehicles for violating regulations concerning the use of illegal black films on windows, collecting a total of ₹31.2 lakh (approximately $37,500 USD) in fines. This initiative, supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Police Satyapal Yadav and Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Gehlot, aims to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with traffic laws. The police highlighted other prevalent violations, such as riding two-wheelers without number plates and triple riding, which pose significant safety risks. Commuters are reminded to adhere to basic traffic norms, including wearing helmets and avoiding distractions while driving. According to a 2012 Supreme Court ruling, black films are prohibited unless specific security exemptions are granted, mandating a minimum visible light transmission of 70% for front and rear windshields and 50% for side windows. The Gurugram traffic police plan to continue these enforcement efforts in the coming weeks.
