In response to recent unrest in Noida, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a significant increase in minimum wages for workers across various categories. Effective from April 1, unskilled workers in Gautam Buddh Nagar district will now earn ₹13,690 per month, a rise from the previous ₹11,313. Semi-skilled workers will receive ₹15,059, while skilled workers will earn ₹16,868. For other municipal areas, unskilled workers will earn ₹13,006, semi-skilled workers ₹14,306, and skilled workers ₹16,025. In the remaining districts, the wages will be ₹12,356 for unskilled, ₹13,591 for semi-skilled, and ₹15,224 for skilled workers. This decision follows consultations with employers and labor organizations to ensure a balanced outcome. The wage hike comes after large-scale protests by factory workers in Noida, where thousands demanded higher wages and improved working conditions, leading to violent demonstrations in parts of the district. The government has formed a committee to engage with workers and employers to address these issues.
