These winds are expected to bring peak gusts of 35 to 65 mph, significantly raising temperatures and wildfire risks across the region. Areas from Point Mugu to Santa Clarita Valley and parts of Orange County are particularly affected. Currently, crews are battling active brush fires in Riverside and Los Angeles counties, with evacuations already ordered in some communities. The combination of low humidity and dry vegetation creates conditions conducive to rapid fire spread, as seen with recent brush fires driven by gusts reaching 50 mph. The Springs Fire, located about 64 miles east of Los Angeles, has spread across roughly 6.3 square miles and is now 45% contained thanks to easing winds and effective firefighting efforts. Santa Ana winds are a recurring phenomenon in Southern California, typically occurring 10 to 25 times a year, and they remain a significant contributor to the region's fire ecology.
