The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed its support for Bahrain's call for action from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani stated that the situation poses a direct threat to global stability, food and energy security, and international law. The UAE Mission to the UN emphasized that ongoing inaction could lead to a broader crisis, particularly impacting countries in the Global South. Bahrain, holding the rotating presidency of the UNSC, has proposed a draft resolution that seeks to authorize member states to use all necessary defensive means to ensure safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for global energy trade. The proposed resolution comes amid increased tensions and disruptions in maritime security in the region, with the UNSC scheduled to vote on the matter soon.
