Actress Hansika Motwani has initiated a defamation lawsuit against her former sister-in-law, Muskan Nancy James, in a Mumbai sessions court, seeking ₹2 crore (approximately $240,000 USD) in damages. The suit alleges that James made false accusations of domestic violence against Motwani and her brother, Prashant Motwani, to avoid repaying a ₹27 lakh (about $32,500 USD) loan she took during her marriage to Prashant. Motwani's legal action, filed through advocate Adnan Shaikh, requests a court order preventing James from making further defamatory statements and demands a public apology. In a counterclaim, James had previously accused the Motwanis of cruelty and harassment, alleging domestic violence and interference in her marriage. The couple, who married in 2020, has been living separately since 2022. Additionally, Hansika is dealing with her own marital issues, having recently separated from her husband, Sohael Khaturiya, after a lavish wedding in December 2022.
