Eli Lilly and Company has announced the FDA approval of Foundayo, a new weight loss pill aimed at adults with obesity or weight-related medical conditions. Foundayo, known scientifically as orforglipron, is unique as it can be taken at any time of day without restrictions on food or water. This flexibility is expected to enhance adherence to treatment for patients. Clinical trials have demonstrated that users can achieve an average weight loss of 12.4% at the highest dosage. The drug is intended to be used in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Starting April 6, it will be available through the LillyDirect platform and will soon reach pharmacies across the United States, with a monthly cost of $149 for self-pay customers. Eli Lilly is also pursuing approval for Foundayo in over 40 countries, positioning itself against competitors like Novo Nordisk in the global weight-loss market.
