In an effort to combat persistent traffic congestion in Bengaluru, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has proposed a ₹420 crore (approximately $50 million USD) project to construct a 1.6-km-long four-lane elevated corridor at Mekhri Circle. This area has been a significant bottleneck for commuters, particularly affecting travel between the city center and the airport. Previous attempts to alleviate the congestion, such as adding an extra ramp to the Hebbal Flyover, have only shifted the problem further along the route. The new corridor aims to streamline traffic flow with a raised rotary junction and two down-ramps for improved access to Yeshwanthpur and Jayamahal. The BDA has secured necessary clearances and plans to complete the project within 18 months of awarding the contract. This initiative is expected to enhance urban mobility, reduce travel times, and lower fuel consumption for daily commuters.
