Auqib Nabi, a 29-year-old fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, has credited former South African cricketer Dale Steyn for inspiring his journey into fast bowling. Nabi was pivotal in J&K's historic Ranji Trophy title run, finishing as the highest wicket-taker with 60 wickets in 17 innings at an impressive average of 12.65. Over the last two Ranji Trophy seasons, he has amassed 104 wickets. Currently training with the Delhi Capitals, Nabi is poised to make his IPL debut against the Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. He expressed how Steyn's ability to swing the ball at high speeds inspired him to pursue a career in cricket, despite initial resistance from his father, who wanted him to become a doctor. Nabi also acknowledged the influence of Irfan Pathan, who mentored him during his Under-23 years and helped him transition to the senior team. Pathan noted Nabi's exceptional skill in generating seam movement and swing, which sets him apart as a fast bowler.
