Rahul Gandhi (Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha) expressed solidarity with factory workers in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, who protested for higher wages on Tuesday. The protests, which escalated to violence, highlighted the struggles of workers earning ₹12,000 monthly while facing rising living costs, such as rent and fuel prices. Gandhi criticized the Modi government for ignoring these issues and implementing labour codes without consultation, which he argues have worsened workers' conditions. Following the unrest, the Uttar Pradesh government announced a revision of salary structures, effective from April 1, categorizing rates based on city types. However, doubts remain among workers about the effectiveness of this revision, as many feel they are underpaid by factory owners. Additionally, state officials suggested potential links between the protests and external influences, including terrorism and Naxalism, raising concerns about a broader conspiracy to disrupt stability in the region.
